New versatile multipurpose device

Starting September 1st, 2017, Siborg will begin offering the LCR-Reader-MP, a new versatile device that offers a basic accuracy of 0.1%,  and more measurement modes than the Smart Tweezers ST-1 devices. These features include: AC/DC voltage measurements, signal generation, LED and diode tests, oscilloscope mode, frequency measurements, pulse counting and more. One of the most important features found on the device is a 100 kHz test frequency for 0.01 pF resolution for capacitance measurements and 1 nH for inductance.

The LCR-Reader-MP is effective for testing large capacitances up to 680 mF. According to regular electrolytic capacitor test conditions, capacitors are measured at 120 Hertz with ESR measured at 100 kHz. When using the ‘Large Capacitance’ mode, the test frequency is reduced to 25 Hertz to be able to test very large capacitances with reasonable accuracy. The device also offers a wide range of test frequencies: 50, 100, 120 Hz, 1, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 and 100 kHz.

The oscilloscope mode is helpful for analyzing voltage wave forms with frequencies up to 100 kHz on active circuit board. This mode is especially practical when used with the  LCR-Reader Kelvin Probe Connector which allows the device to check wave forms at various nodes on the PCB.

Some downsides to the LCR-Reader-MP include a rather high test signal source resistance of 1 kOhm; a maximum test signal of 0.65 Vrms which is not reliable for testing some ceramic capacitors, thus leading to lower than actual capacitance values. The device is also twice the size and weight of LCR-Reader and Smart Tweezers. The larger size allows for  a larger and easier to read screen.

The LCR-Reader-MP will be available after September 1st, 2017 with Siborg offering an introductory price of $388.99 USD. The device can be pre-ordered with shipments beginning as the devices become available.
